Handle
An account's username with the @ symbol in front of it. Ex. @MzHumz, @WarriorGuide, @WaldwickMS
Follow
You select accounts to follow. Whenever these accounts tweet or retweet a message, they will appear in the stream of messages you view. This information is being "pushed" to you. Selecting the right professionals to follow can help you discover new resources and ideas.
Follower
People who elect to follow your account. They will be sent every tweet or retweet message you create.
Hashtag
#edchat, #edtech, #sschat, #historyteacher
Trending
When a word, phrase, or hashtag is being used with high frequency on Twitter. Can view what is trending in a targeted location (ex. New York, Los Angles, etc.)
Tweet
A 140 character message or "status update." Can include links, pictures, or videos. Used professionally to have conversations with collegues around the globe and share resources.
Retweet
To "forward" a tweet by someone else to your followers.
Direct Message
A private message sent between two people who follow each other. (Can only be sent between people who follow each other.)
Public Account
Anyone on Twitter can follow your account, view your tweets, and see who you follow. Good for expanding your Professional Learning Network.
Private Account
Only people you approve can follow your account, view your tweets, and see who you follow. Good for using Twitter to converse with friends.
Block a Follower
If someone is harassing you on Twitter and you do not want them to view your tweets, you can take steps to block them.
Verified Account
An account that certifises that the owner of the account is who they say they are. (Important for celebrities.) Indicated with a check mark.
